## Beschreibung

1993 verwüstete der Tsunami des Hokkaido-Nansei-Oki-Erdbebens die Insel Okushiri – seither hat der Flughafen für die Notfall- und Versorgungslogistik der Insel besonderes Gewicht, die Piste wurde später auf 1'500 Meter verlängert. Heute fliegt Hokkaido Air System einmal täglich nach Hakodate. Luftfracht wird nicht abgefertigt: Die Versorgung der Insel läuft per Fähre ab Setana und Esashi, eilige Güter werden über Hakodate (HKD) oder New Chitose (CTS) geflogen und per Lkw und Fähre weitertransportiert.
