Nur rund 120 Kilometer von Tokio entfernt und doch logistisch eine Welt für sich: Die Vulkaninsel Izu Oshima wird über den Flughafen Oshima lediglich mit Kleinflugzeugen von New Central Airservice ab Chofu bedient. Das Gros der Güter – vom Treibstoff bis zum Supermarktsortiment – kommt per Schiff von Tokyo-Takeshiba. Eine Luftfrachtabfertigung gibt es nicht; eilige Sendungen nehmen den Jetfoil ab Tokio. Bekanntester Export der Insel ist Kamelienöl (Tsubaki), das traditionell auf dem Seeweg verschickt wird.
