Argostoli, die Hauptstadt der Ionischen Insel Kefalonia, ist in erster Linie ein Passagier- und Fährhafen: Fähren, Kreuzfahrtschiffe und Yachten bestimmen den Betrieb, während Frachtschiffe nur in begrenztem Umfang anlaufen. Der neue Pier nimmt Kreuzfahrtschiffe von bis zu 320 m Länge auf, doch der eigentliche Frachtkai ist mit rund 5,5 m Tiefe auf kleinere Einheiten beschränkt. Stückgut und Container für die Insel werden vor allem über das griechische Festland herangeführt; eine nennenswerte Container- oder Zollabfertigung findet hier nicht statt. Die Hinterlandanbindung beschränkt sich auf das Strassennetz der Insel. Für Speditionen ist Argostoli daher vor allem im Insel- und Projektverkehr relevant, mit dem Fährhafen Sami sowie Patras auf dem Festland als Alternativen.
