Seit den 1700er-Jahren wird von Burgeo (CA BUO) an Neufundlands Südwestküste Fischfang betrieben – damals segelten Schoner mit Salzfisch nach Europa und in die USA. Heute ist der Ort ein kleiner Fischereihafen mit Verarbeitungsbetrieb und Anleger für den provinziellen Fährdienst nach Ramea (rund 90 Minuten Überfahrt), Grey River und François; eine einzige Strasse (Route 480) bindet ihn ans Landesinnere an. Eine kommerzielle Fracht-, Container- oder Zollabfertigung im klassischen Sinn besteht nicht, weshalb die Frachtrelevanz für Speditionen begrenzt ist. Internationale oder containerisierte Sendungen werden über Port aux Basques (Fährverbindung zum Festland) oder die grösseren Häfen St. John's und Corner Brook abgewickelt.
