Bereits 1970 in Betrieb genommen, war Canaport am Mispec Point das erste Tiefwasser-Rohölterminal der westlichen Hemisphäre, das Supertanker abfertigen konnte. Die Anlage an der Bay of Fundy rund 9 km südöstlich von Saint John (New Brunswick) versorgt über ein Einpunkt-Bojensystem (SPM) die Irving-Oil-Raffinerie, die grösste Raffinerie Kanadas. Direkt benachbart nahm 2009 das LNG-Terminal den Betrieb auf – Kanadas erstes LNG-Import- und Regasifizierungsterminal, das der spanische Energiekonzern Repsol seit 2021 zu 100 % besitzt und seither als Saint John LNG (zuvor Canaport LNG) führt, nachdem Irving Oil seinen 25-%-Anteil veräusserte. Mit Fahrwassertiefen um 23 m ist Canaport ausschliesslich auf flüssige Energiefracht ausgelegt: Rohöl und verflüssigtes Erdgas. Containerverkehr, Stückgut oder RoRo werden hier nicht abgewickelt; entsprechende Sendungen laufen über das benachbarte Containerterminal des Hafens Saint John (Betrieb DP World). Für Speditionen ist Canaport damit relevant für Tanker- und Energielogistik, nicht für klassische Stückgut- oder Containerfracht.
