Mit rund 236'000 Tonnen Anlandungen im Jahr 2022 zählt Choshi zu den grössten Fischereihäfen Japans. Der Hafen an der Mündung des Tone-Flusses bei Kap Inubō in der Präfektur Chiba profitiert davon, dass sich vor der Küste warmer Kuroshio- und kalter Oyashio-Strom treffen – ideale Bedingungen für rund 200 Fischarten, darunter Bonito, Sardine und Makrele. Die wirtschaftliche Bedeutung liegt klar in Fischfang und -verarbeitung sowie in der traditionsreichen Sojasaucen-Industrie der Stadt. Als naturbelassener Flusshafen mit begrenzten Wassertiefen ist Choshi nicht auf Container- oder grossen Stückgutverkehr ausgelegt. Die Anbindung ans Hinterland erfolgt über Strasse und Bahn nach Chiba und in den Grossraum Tokio. Für kommerzielle Container-, Bulk- oder Industriefracht nutzen Speditionen den nahen Industriehafen Kashima oder die Häfen Chiba und Tokio/Yokohama.
