Kohle, Schnittholz, Thunfisch und Ilmenit prägten über Jahrzehnte den Warenumschlag von Greymouth an der Westküste der neuseeländischen Südinsel. Heute wickelt der Flusshafen am Mündungstrichter des Grey River ausschliesslich Inlandverkehr ab und besitzt keine Abfertigung für internationale Linienfracht – Exportkohle wird inzwischen per Bahn nach Lyttelton gebracht und von dort verschifft. Der Zugang führt über eine Barre zwischen zwei Wellenbrechern zu den Flusskais, während die Fischereiflotte in der Erua-Moana-Lagune festmacht. Mit maximal 109 m Länge, 15,2 m Breite und 5,5 m Tiefgang ist die Anlage auf kleine Küstenfahrer und Fischereifahrzeuge ausgelegt. Für Speditionen mit Containern, Zollabwicklung oder internationaler Stückgutfracht ist Greymouth nicht geeignet; nächstgelegene kommerzielle Optionen sind Lyttelton und Nelson.
