Als wichtigster Hafen der Chugoku-Region bündelt Hiroshima den Aussenhandel des westlichen Honshu, allen voran den Automobilexport. Für Speditionen eignet sich Hiroshima für Container-, Reefer- und Breakbulk-Sendungen in Westjapan; für globale Hauptliniendienste bleiben Kobe und Osaka die nächstgelegenen grossen Linienhäfen.
