Bereits 1581 als Fürstenhafen von Kutch gegründet, lebt Mandvi bis heute von einer rund 400-jährigen Tradition des hölzernen Dhau-Baus. An der Mündung des Rukmavati in den Golf von Kutch entstehen noch immer mastlose Frachtboote (lokal «Vahan») von 300 bis über 1'500 Tonnen, die nach Fertigstellung an Häfen der Arabischen Halbinsel verkauft werden. Für moderne Linienfracht ist Mandvi dagegen von begrenzter Relevanz: Der offene Reedeankerplatz und eine Pier mit nur 3,4 m Tiefe lassen weder Containerschiffe noch standardisierte Zollabfertigung zu. Speditionen mit Containern, Bulk oder Projektladung in der Region Kutch nutzen die nahen Tiefwasserhäfen Mundra und Kandla (Deendayal).
