Seit 1981 versorgt der Hafen der Insel Matsushima (JP MTS) im Kreis Saikai bei Nagasaki vor allem das gleichnamige Kohlekraftwerk von J-Power mit Brennstoff. Der Umschlag ist damit weitgehend werksgebunden auf Kohle ausgerichtet und nicht auf kommerziellen Container-, Stückgut- oder Zollverkehr. Mit der Stilllegung von Block 1 Ende 2024 und der vorläufigen Einmottung von Block 2 für das geplante GENESIS-Projekt (Vergasung mit Biomasse und Ammoniak samt CO2-Abscheidung) ist die künftige Frachtrelevanz unsicher. Für kommerzielle Sendungen in der Region Nagasaki sind die Häfen Nagasaki und Sasebo massgebend.
