Bentonit und Perlit prägen den Frachtcharakter von Milos: Die Kykladeninsel ist der grösste Produzent dieser Industrieminerale in der EU. Verschifft wird das Material allerdings nicht am Hauptort Adamas, sondern an den Verladeanlagen von Voudia und Kanava, wo Imerys (vormals S&B) direkt auf Bulkfrachter lädt – rund 500'000 Tonnen Perlit jährlich. Adamas selbst ist primär Fähr- und Passagierhafen mit Anschluss an Piräus und weitere Ägäisinseln und verfügt nur über geringe Kaitiefen. Containerlinien oder grössere Stückgutabfertigung bietet die Insel nicht. Die Hinterlandverteilung erfolgt ausschliesslich über das lokale Strassennetz. Für containerisierte Importe und Exporte ist der Hafen von Piräus die massgebliche Alternative.
