Port Taranaki in New Plymouth (LOCODE: NZ NPL) ist der einzige Tiefwasserhafen an der Westküste Neuseelands und nach Gesamtumschlag der drittgrösste Hafen des Landes. Der Hafen verarbeitete 2024/25 über 3 Mio. Ab 2026 wird Port Taranaki als Standort für ein nationales LNG-Importterminal entwickelt – die Regierung shortlistete Mitte 2026 zwei Anbieter, die beide eine FSRU (Floating Storage and Regasification Unit) vorschlagen; Erstlieferungen werden für 2028 erwartet, um den rückläufigen einheimischen Gasabbau zu kompensieren. Containerlinienverkehr gibt es nicht; nächste Universalhäfen sind Port of Tauranga (BOP) und Auckland.
