Rund 1,55 Mio. Tonnen Güter (2021) machen Port-La-Nouvelle südlich von Narbonne zum drittgrössten Mittelmeer-Handelshafen Frankreichs. Der Verkehr ist klar auf Massen- und Flüssigladung ausgerichtet: Erdölprodukte (über 1 Mio. Der Hinterlandverkehr läuft über Strasse und Schiene Richtung Narbonne und das Tal der Aude; ein Ausbauprogramm zielt auf 6 Mio. Tonnen bis 2030. Containerlinienverkehr bietet Port-La-Nouvelle nicht – dafür sind Marseille-Fos oder Sète die passenden Adressen. Für Schüttgut, Getreide, Flüssigladung und Windenergie-Komponenten am westlichen Golfe du Lion ist der Hafen (FR NOU) hingegen erste Wahl.
