Rund 3,7 Mio. Tonnen Phosphatkonzentrat liefen 2013 über Puerto Bayovar – das umreisst die wahre Funktion dieses Terminals an der Wüstenküste der Region Piura. Betrieben wird die Verladeanlage im Umfeld der Miski-Mayo-Mine (Vale) in Sechura; eine rund 187 Meter lange Verladeplattform dient dem Export von Phosphatgestein und Gips, nicht dem Containerumschlag. Direkt benachbart betreibt PetroPerú das Erdölterminal Bayóvar, den Endpunkt der Oleoducto-Nor-Peruano-Pipeline aus dem Amazonasbecken, wo Rohöl in VLCC verladen wird. Als offene Reede ist der Standort auf Massengut und Flüssigladung ausgelegt; Zoll- und Linienfracht laufen nicht hier. Das Hinterland erschliesst sich über Strassen nach Sechura und Piura, eine Bahnanbindung fehlt. Für containerisierte Sendungen aus Nordperu ist Paita die richtige Adresse, für Stückgut und grössere Volumen Callao.
