Bis zur Eröffnung der Grossen Seto-Brücke 1988 war Uno der Eisenbahn-Fährhafen zwischen Honshu und Shikoku; mit der festen Querung verlor der Güter- und Fährverkehr stark an Bedeutung. Heute liegt Uno (jap. Uno-kō) in Tamano in der Präfektur Okayama an der Seto-Inlandsee und dient vor allem als Personen- und Fahrzeugfähranleger zu den Kunstinseln Naoshima, Teshima und Shodoshima. Wirtschaftlich prägend ist die Tamano-Werft des Mitsui-E&S-Konzerns, eine der grösseren Werften Japans, was die vorhandene Schiffsreparatur, das Trockendock und die Kaitiefe von rund 11 Metern erklärt. Allgemeiner Stückgut- oder Containerumschlag spielt dagegen nur eine untergeordnete Rolle. Für Linienfracht und Container nutzen Spediteure die nahen Häfen Mizushima (Kurashiki) und Kobe. Uno ist somit primär als Fähr- und Schiffbaustandort einzuordnen, weniger als Ladungs-Gateway.
