Seit der Welland-Umgehungskanal 1973 eröffnet wurde, fliesst der kommerzielle Seeverkehr östlich an der Stadt Welland vorbei, während der alte Kanalabschnitt durch die Innenstadt zum Welland Recreational Waterway für Freizeitboote wurde.
