Der Magnesitbergbau Nordgriechenlands prägt den kleinen Hafen Yerakini (Gerakini) an der Chalkidiki: Er dient als Verladestelle für Grecian Magnesite, das hier die grössten Magnesitvorkommen der Region abbaut. Am Toroneos-Golf gelegen und rund 80 km von Thessaloniki entfernt, ist Yerakini zugleich der Seehafen von Polygyros, der Präfekturhauptstadt etwa 10 km landeinwärts. Über den Pier nahe dem Ort werden rohe und gebrannte Magnesitprodukte verschifft, traditionell per Schmalspurbahn aus den Steinbrüchen zur Anlage gebracht. Der Hafen ist auf dieses Schüttgut- und Industrieprofil zugeschnitten; allgemeiner Linien-, Container- oder Zollverkehr ist hier nicht bestätigt. Die Hinterlandanbindung erfolgt über die Strasse Richtung Polygyros und Thessaloniki. Für Container, Stückgut und international abgefertigte Sendungen ist der Hafen von Thessaloniki die praktische Alternative.
